About Us

Blood Music views music as high art without restrictions.

We are a tiny label with large global exposure, thanks in part to several breakthrough albums, as well as completist box sets created for legendary metal bands Emperor, Strapping Young Lad, and Moonsorrow.

The first five years of the label were run by one person, releasing more than 200 items alone - including the two largest metal box sets in history (14LP + 24LP) - and hitting the Billboard charts back-to-back in 2016 with Perturbator "The Uncanny Valley" and GosT "Non Paradisi."

But let's back up a bit.

Blood Music began as a non-profit association, dedicated to the anthropological and cultural preservation of extreme metal music.  When myriad plans to create workshops, film screenings, and other local gatherings fell apart, the only thing remaining was a quickly growing record label.

Established in an attic in Tampere, Finland, in 2011; Blood Music's first action was the not-for-profit release of the maudlin of the Well 4xLP + 7" Box Set.  A quick sell-out led to further and further licenses, building to the release of the label's first "new album" - Kauan "Pirut."

In the following years, the label bounced between undiscovered gems, genre-defining classics, and new album releases.  The label eventually received a major jolt of exposure when introducing dark electronic music into the extreme metal world.  Artists like Perturbator, GosT, Dan Terminus, Dynatron, and Tommy '86 shot into the limelight.

What started as viewing metal as high art grew into the perspective that music should not be restricted by form nor genre.  We now aim to educate on the inner workings of the music industry, the growth of small companies, and to push the restraints of small record labels outwards.

The label is now based in Porvoo, Finland.  We also operate out of warehouses in Michigan, USA, as well as Ireland.  And we have full retail distribution across North America, Europe, and Australia.
