Spot on! I've been meaning to give DSO their this year's chance. Every year I've tried, but there's always something bothering me.
Same here. I've never "got" them, despite liking a lot of bands that they've supposedly influenced.
Then again, there's a lot of bands I don't "get". Mayhem are the big one, despite hearing their music loads and seeing them live a few times over the last 20 years they just don't do anything for me. I've yet to hear their last album though, I must get round to listening to it.
I'd love a good album to start with (again!)
Always start with Circumspice. It's not their best, probably their easiest listen though. Then listen to Drought. It's their final release, and probably their most accessible in that style. Then move to Paracletus, and if you want stranger, then listen to Fas. If you want crazier then listen to some of their splits/singles like Chaining the Katechon. After one or both of those, check out Kénôse. Then just kinda listen to whatever you want.
