I put most of mine on a timbuk2 messenger bag. Not sure about putting pins on it, though, I don't want to punch big holes in it

Had the same dilemma, so I actually bought the bag for the patches.  "Battle vests" don't really appeal to me.

The pins go well on bags and also on cold weather jackets imo.

I still have yet to figure out where the hell to put stickers.

I too hate the idea of having a patch vest
It's something you do when you're new to metal and want to show off how 'metal' and non-poser-y you are at the age of 17
Unless you're in a band wearing it on stage it will almost always look ridiculous to anyone normal
