Although it's so good having so much new music to investigate. It totally blows out and can get a little overwhelming at times I have to say. That said. Arktis. Arrived in the mail yesterday. Ohhhhh mannnnnnnn! Phenomenal.

Listening to Enslaved's "Isa", as I haven't listened to it in a while and I'm seeing them this Saturday. Should be awesome!

After finally listening to Exmilitary I think I'm coming around to them. I had tried gov't plates, The Money Store, and some of The Powers That B and wasn't feeling them.

I also listened to some of that leak since listening to Exmilitary, and I definitely enjoyed what I heard. I like the direction it goes after the first two tracks.

Some great production.. It's all a little too downward for me but I have some respect for the art. I love most of te stuff Zach did with Hella (assuming you have heard that, a lot is more plain crazy guitar/drum stuff but there was some weird electeonic production on some releases) so I had to check out Death Grips.. I kind of wish he'd get back to some new Hella. He also did a great album with Mick Barr ( of Krallice, Orthrelm, Ocrilim etc) called Shred Earthship, it's basically a load of intense shred but it can be quite a transcendental music experience if you immerse. Zach Hill is a special drummer,

I like Hella, but I actually think I appreciate DG more, to be perfectly honest. Never heard of Shred Earthship though.

Death Grips is probably more interesting in a lot of ways than Hella, although you can hear the starts in some of the electronic Hella stuff. I definitely have to respect a lot of the artistry, it's just a personal thing that puts me off. Exmilitary is the only one I heard in entirety and I had to listen a few times (I even stole some drum tracks from Black Google to use form some Animoog work whilst I don't have my studio).

Shred Earthship is almost as difficult to listen to as OV by Orthrelm, it's similar style to Orthrelm but doesn't sound so perfectly organised as (which most would not call organised). The rewards are obscured by the abrassive nature, like a lot of Mick Barr's work. Good luck if you try :Smile

"For myself, it's definitely the best playing I've ever captured on record on my instrument. That record tops any level of playing I've ever done on a record, physically and spiritually." -- Zach Hill, on recording with Mick Barr for Shred Earthship. (ten year old quote)
