I'm a musician and a homegrown sound producer and I can't imagine how a vinyl record could improve raw digital sound. Or is it just about getting a nice collection of kickass albums that you can put on a display (that Perturbator vinyl is so nice!)
I'm pretty uncivilized when it comes to sound, I will like the sound of something while my audiophile friend is reaching for the noose and the chair, so its not about the sound personally for me, although hearing the odd pop and crackle does seem to add to the atmosphere - at the end of the day I don't notice any difference, and my audio gear is not terribly flash so that helps in that regard
For me, its about the look and feel of it all, the larger records have huge amounts of real estate for cover artwork, and some artists will do "vinyl only" artworks that don't show up on the CD or digital version
Then there is the records themselves, I have a few picture disks, and the rest are all different colours, reds, blues, pink, Of course black, and even a pair of yellow records for my "Pixies - Best of Wave of Mutilation" LP - they just look and feel awesome - I even have a Green vinyl copy of Perturbator's "I am the Night" on order, and a Purple vinyl pre order of the new Perturbator album coming out though Blood Music which should be awesome
