Anyone watch this guy's videos? I suppose it's pretty hateful/elitist stuff. I find some of his videos pretty funny, regardless of whether I agree with his sentiments or not.

I just started using last.fm again after 4 year break. Gotta be careful with it this time. Last time I found I obsessed way too much over trivial facts like some song randomly not scrobling or some song scrobling accidently twice etc. Whatever the case I think it's safe to say I will never (or at least it'll take a LONG time) catch up my top artists with current favourites. Can't beat the late teenage craze.
Not that I would be ashamed of anything there. I like pretty much everything I liked back then even if I don't listen to those old favourites nearly as much nowadays. Except Moonsorrow. They would be way, way on top as well if last.fm counted playing time instead of plays. (04-11-2016, 11:24 PM)Lanttu Wrote: I just started using last.fm again after 4 year break. Double scrobbling etc. doesn't seem to happen as much, but they messed up the site quite a bit. It's been in this beta mode for over half a year now, which really sucks! The "neighbours" function is gone and the "events" function is... well... not very functional. Though I've found so much music through the site that I'm able to forgive its flaws. It'll probably take me some years for my current favorites to catch up with my top artists as well, but by then I'll probably have different favorites. :p I just keep the Top Artists bit on last 180 or 365 days to keep it a bit up to date.

Can't beat the late teenage craze. Beta, beta... Right. That reminded me of the initial reason what killed my biggest interest in the site. It was actually their site overhaul back I don't even remember when. The site used to scale by your window size and even when small it showed a lot of infomation, both vertically and horizontally. Update ripped away the whole horizontal aspect but what made it even worse was vertical stuff taking like almost twice as much space. There were some user made custom styles with browser expansions that restored a lot of old look but when site changes eventually killed them, my interest withered away as well. In the end I just stopped caring all together. Anyway that still doesn't take away the fact I obsessed too much about stupid things and that there is a risk of that happening again.

Oh, damn, I wouldn't know about all that. Most users are disappointed these days because the sidebar/about me section is limited to 200 characters of plain text. I mainly miss the "neighbours" and "events" functions. "Groups" were also nice.

Here are some examples how it used to look: some random user page and Iron Maiden band page, after update user and Iron Maiden. I wouldn't necessary want to go back to old days anymore but at the time I hated the change with passion. I was used to seeing more info in one page with more compact form. Obviously it looks quite crude nowadays. 200 character limit? You mean you can't do these anymore?

Yeah, the sidebar thing plastered with pictures, opinions and logos. And yeah, way less info on pages now. :/

Fairly interesting article about GZ Media: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/36...yl-factory
Most notable is what Michal Sterba (the CEO) says about RSD: "I don't see that it has as much importance now. People are releasing their records on vinyl regularly the whole year round, rather than focussing on one specific day. It's a nice symbol. It's like Mother's Day - you would love your mother regardless of whether it was Mother's Day or not. It's the same with Record Store Day."

That's good news. There actually were far less delays on pressing vinyl this time of year than last year - last year was a wreck!
