It was a change in direction and lacks cohesion. That's why I skipped it rather soon and ended up without the LP. I occasionally listened to the two more or less blackened moments of the album - Jura and Sgùrr Eilde Mòr. But then I found it again like a year later and started to get some kind of grasp of the chaos and beauty instead of having an even flow. Even though the album on the surface bounces from metal to electronica, folk and to black metal, I found something built around the two 15-minute centrepieces, of which Sgùrr Eilde Mòr is one. Especially on vinyl it is an avantgarde journey, built on three sides, each of which has one heavier cut contrasting and complementing the other 1 or 2 songs (or the other way round).
I guess all Thy Catafalque records are avantgarde journeys, but this is more jarring and has sharper turns. It's different than the albums before and after, so it's hard to put my finger on how high to place it in their discography, especially with its flaws and certain simplicity, but nowadays I enjoy it a lot. In fact, it's awesome. After listening to it today a couple of times, I can say that at this moment I enjoy it more than at least Naiv, Geometria or Róka Hasa Rádió, which is saying a lot. However, on another day the situation is the other way round. As for the best - the new album, Vadak, may become the pinnacle for me. Years will show, but I'm quite confident about it.
