I've been looking to upgrade/rebuild mine (it's 8 years old at this point...). I haven't kept up with the latest stuff, myself - what did you get (video card, specifically)? I'd like to start looking to play some more modern games.

It depends a lot on your budget and at what resolution you intend to play your games. I'm no expert but from the reviews I've read, a GTX1060 would be very good for 1080p. Above that resolution, a GTX1070 or above would be more likely. I haven't looked much at the AMD GPUs.

I read and watched tons of reviews on youtube, hardwarecanucks.com, and elsewhere. PCpartpicker.com was a huge help for me, especially for compatibility check and the ability to find which sellers have the lowest price.

I went with an Intel i7-7700K, Asus ROG Maximus Hero motherboard, Asus ROG GTX1080 11Mbps, and 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX. I was going to buy a GTX1070 but I found a GTX1080 for $250 less than it was sold elsewhere.
I have received the last pieces today. I can't wait to build it this weekend. Hope everything runs smoothly
