Had a very shitty experience yesterday when I tried the Pale Ale by Köstritzer, a brewery mostly famous vor its dark beer. I'm usually quite fond of pale ale, but they screwed it up big time. Noticed that things like that happen rather often when traditional breweries try to set foot on new territories.

I need to try a few special Brewdog beers: Tokyo, Cocoa Psycho, Paradox Islay
They sound so wonderful that I just ordered them.

There was Helsinki Beer Festival here maybe last weekend? But I didn't quite get it. You pay 12 EUR to get in and then pay more for beer. I guess you have to be some drinker to want to try 20 diff beers in a sitting as a taste test to want to fork over like that.

Yeah, I actually attended. A friend's parents have this small barbecue company, so we got to go there and taste all the beers for free for three hours before the place was opened for the public. It was quite alright :D Band rehearsals we had after tasting loads of strong quality beer, on the other hand, didn't go that well...

I think those are wonderful events. I was disappointed I couldn't make it, even though it was already planned.

I don't know how they are like in other countries, probably cheaper at least. However, I like the possibility of buying limited edition craft beers not available in stores or Alko, seasonal beers not available in tap anywhere, and especially beers of high quality in portions you want. You can buy e.g. 2 dl of each you want to sample. Besides, the prices are not as high as they would normally be.

We have a small one here; about 90 different breweries/ exhibitors from around the world (well, Europe mostly). The event goes on for three days, and there's always a few nice brews to try that you havem't heard about before. Admission is free, and everyone's having a good time. I guess there's a lot of growing potential since craft beer is becoming more and more of a hipster thing (at least here).

Helsinki beer festival is the biggest we have. It's much bigger than I'd have time to sample all interesting brews. This year it had 30 Finnish small breweries and a few dozen foreign breweries, 300 beers and 40 different ciders for two days.

Ahh, damn maybe I missed out then. I think the thing is that I'd probably only manage a few beers per day max, at least at some point I stop tasting the beer. If the admission were free, I'd gladly go, I think the admission is the killer for me simply cause I'd feel like in a panic to get my money's worth haha. But free admission in Finland is not too common.

Godflesh - didn't you recommend Sori Taproom a while ago? Tried it yesterday, great place!! That one and Il Birrificio were both great, hit the spot, thanks for the recommends!
